Tangling the Digital: Weaving, Printmaking, Computing
Tangling the Digital: Weaving, Printmaking, Computing is an art & museums event at McMurtry Building in Palo Alto on Wednesday, November 4 at 1:00 PM.
About this event
Digital objects are often seen as alien to craft, as though no hands had shaped them. They can be copied endlessly and exactly, bereft of the maker’s touch. Yet weaving and printmaking are among our oldest technologies of reproduction, fixing patterns so they can be repeated and circulated. The printing press and the Jacquard loom initiated processes of automation that displaced human hands—and that still animate our digital tools. Warp and weft describe not just a textile structure but a logic of making, where two distinct threads cross, hold, and pull against each other.
